What can I expect during my first therapy session?

  • How long does each session last?

    • Each session is 50 minutes long, however on occasion we can book an 80 minute session.

  • How often should I come to therapy?

    • I typically recommend starting with once per week, however, this is up to you.

  • How long does therapy usually take to work?

    • This is entirely dependent on how much time and attention you put into applying the work. There is no standard answer for this.

  • What’s the difference between therapy and counseling?

    • Counselling often focuses on specific issues or challenges in the short term — such as managing stress, improving communication, or navigating a life change. It’s usually more structured and solution-focused. In counselling, we do not diagnose, assess or evaluate.

  • Do I need a referral to start therapy?

    • If you want a diagnosis, you will need to have a psychologist or psychiatrist you have a relationship with as well. You do not need a referal to come and see me.

  • What types of therapy do you offer (e.g., CBT, EMDR, couples therapy)?

    • I offer transpersonal, Gestalt-based, somatic informed and humanistic counselling.
